This is not a triumph

Home computer just experienced a total hard drive failure.

Fortunately I have a laptop from which to internet (yes, it's a verb now) and a spare tower with which I can either attempt recovery or convert into the primary unit.

There are 3 of us in this household and only I am serious about backing up data.

Wish me luck...

  1. Good luck! I won't make a note here, it wasn't a huge success.

  6.  Actually, according to http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/118071-Flash-Memory-Plummets-to-One-Buck-One-Gig, SSD has gotten less pricey than HDD, because the Taiwanese plants that made HDDs got hit by flooding.

  7. HDD can be had for about 15 cents per gig regularly and under 8 cents per gig with shopping. If you wanna compare the highest price HDD to the lowest price SSD, it is close, but 1TB  HDDs now can actually be had for well under 100 bucks.  I have yet to see real world prices in SSDs that are less than 75 cents a gig.
