Handgun Radio 393: The Thompson Submachine Gun with Tex!

There's no episode of Assorted Calibers Podcast today. Weer'd went on vacation and I was too beat up from the events of the past month to wrangle an episode without him. However, I do have something for you that involves me, albeit peripherally.

I am a Big McLargeHuge fan of Tex of the Black Pants Legion. If you don't know who he is, well, you're in for a treat, because the man is a brilliant filmmaker (he made a PhD thesis-level film which actually corrected the historical record about Dr. William Whitney Christmas) and he has a voice which can turn gay women straight and make straight men swoon.

He's also a gun owner and a fan of revolvers, so I figured he would be a natural fit for Handgun Radio. I asked him via his Patreon if he would be willing to appear on HGR and he said yes! But instead of talking about revolvers, Weer'd asked him to talk about his Thompson SMG.

What happened next was nothing short of astonishing: Tex held court and kept us all enthralled, and even Weer'd Beard was dumbstruck!

I stayed out of the way because I was there to hear Tex unedited and uncensored, but I made a few good points in the episode.

So go to Handgun Radio and listen to episode 393!

  • Oddball talks about the latest court case against Hawaii's knife ban;

Status Update 2

This is the first time in nearly a month that I've felt up to writing anything at all. I haven't even felt up to posting the latest podcast episode, which is pretty easy.

I'm not yet ready to go into detail why, but the short version is that on August 4 I had to put my beloved dog Daisy to sleep. I cry every time I think about her, which is daily, so I've been crying at least once a day for three weeks and all that emotion takes a toll on me. I'm crying right now just typing this.

Anyway, we got through my dad's funeral without any drama. It was a nice service, tastefully done. I think he would have liked it.

The house is still a mess because the insurance adjuster is having to fight the insurance company tooth and nail to get them to pay out. For those keeping track, we had the mold (and the carpets, and a significant portion of drywall) removed back in February.

We've had to get a new dishwasher because the old one just stopped cleaning the dishes and instead baked food particles onto them, I've had to repair the wonky French-style refrigerator door yet again-- and each time I do it I wonder if today will be the day that I can't fix it / break it worse -- and today I noticed corrosion on the hot water heater.

I would really like the world to stop beating me down.

    • a drug-related incident involving explosives that proves the futility of gun control.
  • Weer'd fisks a DNC spotlight by Congresswoman Lucy McBath;
  • Matt from Geeks Gadgets and Guns talks about e-bikes;
  • and David brings us part two of the Remington Rolling Block.
